About

I have always been a storyteller, though not always a photographer. After three decades as an award-winning advertising creative director and writer in New York, I turned my curiosity and love for compelling stories to documentary photography in 2018.

I like to get deep into my subject matter, often returning time and again over a year or more until a hidden and more meaningful story finally reveals itself. My favorite photographs are the ones that that engage us personally and emotionally, that bring us into the experience and make it ours. I seek projects that can open minds and have a positive impact in the world. My first year-long project captured the unexpected and sometimes uncomfortable interactions between strangers –  locals and tourists alike – who find themselves sharing the benches along Coney Island's legendary boardwalk. I later spent 18 months marching with and documenting the Black Lives Matter marches throughout NYC and Washington DC, capturing the incredible range of emotions that were laid bare on a nightly basis. My most recent (and still ongoing) project is documenting the working lives and strong community of Black rodeo cowboys in Southeast Texas. My work with Black Lives Matter was part of the #ICPConcerned exhibit at the International Center of Photography, and several images from that same effort are now in the permanent collection of the New York Historical Society.

A longtime New Yorker, I recently moved with my family from Brooklyn to Greenport, but my stories continue to take me far and wide.
